Shrimp with Pimiento Sauce on Herbed Orzo
Green Beans with Bacon and Shallots

Cooking time: 30 minutes for menu      Cooking schedule: see below for instructions

     We'll be using the Pimiento Sauce on the Shrimp tonight and the Patatas Bravas tomorrow night.  As all we are cooking in the grill is the shrimp, it's optional - a skillet works as well. 

Salad with Avocado, Feta and Tomatoes

Total time: 10 minutes
    Another simple salad to start: a ripe avocado, a few greens, some cherry tomatoes and cubed (or crumbled) feta. Imagine eating this in the terrace with a nice glass of chilled rosé.

Grilled Shrimp (Prawns) with Pimiento Sauce On Herbed Orzo

Total time: 30 minutes
    Add a bit of time if you have to clean the shrimp.  The Orzo is made 'risotto-style' for added creaminess.  The shrimp could also be quickly sautéed. The Pimiento Sauce is enough for 2 dishes.

Green Beans with Bacon and Shallots 

Total time: 30 minutes
Using bacon and onion or shallots to flavor green beans goes back to my childhood.  My mother would 'cook up a mess of beans', with lots of bacon and onion to flavor them, then finish the whole lot off with heavy cream.  It was wonderful.... I try for the flavor without quite so much artery clogging fat!

Green Beans with Bacon and Shallots Ingredients:


Cooking Schedule: 30 minutes
Assemble all food, utensils and serving dishes
Utensils: measuring cups, spoons, knives,
scissors, small bowl, medium bowl, whisk, 2 small
saucepans, 1 lid, blender, barbecue grill with grill
pan or skillet, small skillet with lid

Clean shrimp if needed
Mix garlic, lemon, paprika, oil
Add shrimp, stir, set aside
Chop all shallots
Mince garlic
Sauté chili powder, shallots, garlic for pimiento
Sauté bacon
Top and tail beans, cut
Add pimientos, etc, to shallots, cover, simmer
Turn bacon
Prepare greens
Cut tomatoes, feta

Pit olives, cut
Remove bacon, fat, add shallots to skillet, sauté
Make vinaigrette
Purée Pimiento sauce
Cut avocado
Turn on/light barbecue grill if using
Start to cook orzo
Add beans to shallots, water, cover
Make salad, arrange on plates
Reduce heat under orzo, beans
Serve salad
      Interrupt once to check the orzo, beans
Finish orzo
Cook the shrimp
Finish the beans
Arrange orzo on plates, add sauce, shrimp, finish
Serve all
