Rutabagas                                                                                       Time: 40 minutes
yeah, yeah, I know - but we like them....and you don't know until you
have tried them as an adult - tastes change with maturity - and without your
mother forcing you to eat them....there's always carrots...

3 slices bacon, 1/4" pieces
1 medium onion, chopped
1 small rutabaga
1 tbs butter
1 tbs sherry (not cooking - the real stuff - never cook with anything you wouldn't drink)

Peel (with a vegetable peeler - like a potato) and chop rutabaga into pieces about 1/2" X 1/4" - you will need a big knife to chop with - it is rather hard.  In medium sauce pan fry bacon.   When crisp remove and drain all but 1 tbs fat.  Fry onions.  When transparent add chopped rutabaga, 1/2 cup water and bacon.  Bring to a boil, cover, reduce heat and cook 30 - 40 minutes.  Test for doneness - taste, should be like a cooked potato.  When done, drain any remaining liquid, add butter and sherry and serve.
