We can hardly ignore St. Patrick's Day, although it is celebrated much more in the U.S. than in Ireland (and certainly in France). The day is not ignored in Ireland, it is a Saint's Day, after all, and it's a day that is not considered 'Lent' so no fasting or other observations are required. To put more simply: if you 'took the pledge', meaning, gave up alcohol for Lent, you can drink on St. Patrick's Day. That alone is a reason to celebrate! Sláinte mhaith!
